William Roy (reformer)

William Roy (* in Calais ; † 1531 or earlier in Portugal ) was a Franciscan observant and student in Cambridge and Wittenberg of Jewish origin. In Cologne around 1525 and 1528 he worked for William Tyndale on the translation of the Bible. During the Reformation he wrote propaganda writings for them. After breaking up with Tyndale, he went into hiding. He is considered a refugee and a martyr .
