William Sears (medic)

William Sears (born December 9, 1939 in Alton , Illinois ) is an American doctor of pediatrics.

Sears is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine , School of Medicine. Together with his wife Martha, a nurse and lactation consultant, he coined the educational philosophy of attachment parenting (German often: attachment-oriented education or needs-oriented education ).

After completing his degree, William Sears attended Harvard Medical School Children's Hospital in Boston and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto . He appeared on many American television shows as Dr. Bill , for example at Oprah Winfrey , Good Morning America or CBS This Morning . He was and is invited to the topics of parenting and attachment parenting . He is also a medical and education consultant for Baby Talk and Parenting magazines , and the pediatrician in charge of the Parenting.com website .

In 1997, Sears underwent colon cancer surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy .

William and Martha Sears are parents to eight children, one of whom has Down syndrome . Three sons also studied medicine; Together with them, Sears runs a private pediatric practice in San Clemente , California , where he also lives. William and Martha Sears are evangelical Christians; In their book The Complete Book of Christian Parenting and Child Care , published in 1997 , they made recommendations for how attachment parenting can also be used in the service of a Christian upbringing .
