William Vontobel

William Vontobel (born July 5, 1909 in Rorschach ; † August 17, 1973 in Zurich ; resident in Grüningen ) was a Swiss politician ( LdU ).

Life

Vontobel broke off his apprenticeship as a watch stone grinder in Yverdon and from 1925 attended the commercial school in Lausanne . From 1926 to 1929 he completed a commercial apprenticeship in Rapperswil . From 1937 to 1947 he was first city of Zurich , then cantonal and, from 1945, Swiss director of the Landesring der Independene . Vontobel had its own office for administration and business consultancy from 1948 to 1951, after which he worked as an authorized signatory and from 1964 to 1973 as director of the Migros Cooperative Association.

From 1942 to 1963 Vontobel sat for the LdU in the city council of Zurich , which he presided over in 1952/1953. He was also a member of the National Council from 1950 to 1973 , which he presided over in 1971/1972 ; he was the only LdU representative who was ever President of the National Council. Vontobel also sat on the PTT Board of Directors from 1970 to 1973 .
