William White (born June 15, 1972 in Barbados ) is a Barbadian- Swiss musician who has lived in Frutigen since 2011 and was previously active in Winterthur for years .

Life

William White was born and raised in Barbados. At the age of 19 he went to Winterthur in Switzerland , where his mother is from, to study. He also worked as a waiter, songwriter and singer for the band Liz Libido , with whom he released two albums. Eventually he gave up his studies in favor of music.

His first solo album Undone was released in 2005. With the song The Rock , he had previously won a songwriting competition in the USA. As a result, he toured with his seven-member support band The Emergency , which was put together at short notice after the success, supporting Moneybrother, the Jon Butler Trio and Ben Harper. His breakthrough in Switzerland came in 2008 with his second album Evolution . It entered the top 10 of the album charts in March of that year. With the next album Freedom he was able to repeat the success three years later and again reached number 7.

In 2014 William White released another album. Open Country was recorded in Jamaica and includes the cover song Caution by Bob Marley and Rub A Dub with Toots & the Maytals . The album debuted at number 2 on the album charts. With the self-written song For Your Love he also made it into the single charts.

live

William White is out live in various formations, most of which consist of musicians from The Emergency . He often makes smaller appearances solo or with three accompanying musicians as a semi-acoustic quartet. William White is constantly developing his songs and mostly adapting them to the different formations. While his songs on phonograms often do not exceed the four-minute limit, most of the songs in concerts with a band last six minutes or longer.

Accompanist

To The Emergency include Sam Siegenthaler (guitar and backing vocals), Mark Brazil (percussion and backing vocals), Rodrigo Aravena (bass and backing vocals), Chrigel Bosshard (drums and backing vocals), Philippe Kuhn (keyboard), Roman Weissert (saxophone ) and Silvan Kiser (trumpet and backing vocals). The saxophonist Roman Weissert was awarded the City of Winterthur's Culture Prize in 2011 .
