The Williamson Bluff is a 1,000 m high and flattened at the summit cliff on the Bowman Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It lies at the head of Trail Inlet and extends 6 km northeast of Mount Shelby from the east side of Bills Gulch . While its summit is covered in snow, its slopes are made of bare rock.
Aerial photographs were first taken on September 28, 1940 by scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1976 after the British mathematician and lawyer William Williamson (1804-1875), who in 1844 was one of the first in Switzerland to determine the flow velocity on the surface of glaciers .
