In the regular general election 2010 , Bain was able to increase his share of the vote to 68.4% and thus defended his mandate. Over the course of the legislature, Bain served in the Labor Party's shadow cabinet as Secretary of State for Scotland, Transport, and Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. From November 2013 he was a member of the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee . With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in the 2015 general election , Bain lost his mandate and left the British House of Commons.
