Willie Young

Willie Montrel Young (born June 15, 1973 ) is an American basketball coach and former player. During his playing career, the 1.85 meter tall player was under contract with clubs in Germany, Belgium, Israel and the Netherlands. As a trainer, he was responsible for the Crailsheim Merlins in the basketball league .

career

Young played between 1988 and 1992 at Norview High School in the US state of Virginia and from 1992 at Brevard Community College in Florida . From 1995 to 1997 he was a member of the basketball team at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga . There he was in 1996/97 with an average of 14.0 points per game, the second best scorer of the "Mocs" and advanced in the playoffs among the best 16 teams of the NCAA .

In February 1998 he began his professional career with the Dutch Eredivisie club Hans Verkerk Keukens Den Helder and was Dutch champions in his first season with the team. Until 2001, Young played for other Dutch teams, including Den Bosch and Landstede Zwolle, as well as in Israel at short notice at the start of the 1999/2000 season. In the 2001/02 season he was with the Belgian club Eurolines Vilvoorde, with whom he won the championship title in the country's second division, under contract.

For the 2002/03 season, Young moved to Germany and strengthened TV Lich in the 2nd Bundesliga . Between 2004 and 2007 he was with the Crailsheim Merlins (also in the second division) under contract. In February 2007, he suffered a knee injury that caused him to end his playing career.

Young was in Crailsheim youth coach and head coach of the second men's team. The latter team rose under his leadership in the 1st regional league. In August 2012 he was promoted to head coach of the Crailsheim team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . He led the "Merlins" to the ProA final in the 2013/14 season and thus to promotion to the basketball league . In November 2014 he was removed from office, the Crailsheimers were at the bottom of the table. After the separation he returned to the USA and worked as an individual trainer.

In August 2017, he took over the coaching position at Sequatchie County High School in the city of Dunlap (US state Tennessee ) and also worked at the school as a physical education teacher.
