The Willowdale bauxite mine opened in 1984 and is located east of Waroona in Western Australia . The annual production is 10 million tons of bauxite . In 2010 this mine was one of the five largest bauxite mines in Australia.
The bauxite ore from the Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines produces 10 million tons of aluminum annually. That's 45 percent of Australian aluminum production and 11 percent worldwide.
According to the operator Alcoa of Australia , 600 hectares of land are recultivated there every year. Alcoa employs 850 people in the bauxite mines in Western Australia.
