Willy Jahn (painter, 1898)

Willy Jahn (born May 21, 1898 in Laußnitz ; † July 19, 1973 in Dresden ) was a painter and graphic artist .

Willy Jahn and his wife Lucie Prussog-Jahn were among the co-founders of the Dresden Secession in 1932 . In addition, both belonged to the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists Dresden , ASSO Dresden for short, and were among the guests of the artist group Das Ufer - Gruppe in 1947 . Willy Jahn was also a member of the Dresden Artists' Association founded in 1909 .

Willy Jahn initially trained as a lithographer from 1912 until he was called up for military service in 1916. Until then, he had also taken drawing lessons in evening classes. As a master student with Robert Sterl , Jahn studied from 1923 to 1929 at the Academy of Arts in Dresden . During this time he mainly created works on the life of the German proletariat . In 1928 he married the sculptor Lucie Prussog. From 1930 Willy Jahn worked as a commercial artist until he was drafted into military service again at the beginning of the Second World War. Numerous works by Jahn were destroyed in the bombing of Dresden . After the death of her husband, Lucie Prussorg-Jahn still had a few pieces in her possession. Jahn's engagement with the subject of the destruction of Dresden repeatedly attracted attention to his works of art in exhibitions. Rediscovered graphics by Willy Jahn were exhibited in a special exhibition by the Städtische Galerie Dresden on the destruction of Dresden in 2015.

Works by Willy Jahn are also part of the collection of the Dippoldiswalde Tanner, City and District Museum .
