Willy Miksch
Willy Miksch (born February 26, 1904 in Vienna ; † March 10, 1992 there ) was an Austrian working-class poet and writer .
Life
Willy Miksch came from a working-class family, learned the profession of typesetter and from 1924 published poems in various magazines and newspapers. During the Great Depression he worked as a bath attendant, unskilled worker and educator. In 1933 he was a functionary of the Association of Socialist Writers . Willy Miksch wrote more than 100 choral works with political themes for the Red Players , the Politische Bühne (magazine of the socialist event groups) as well as several poems. Several of these were published in settings by Kurt Pahlen or Erwin Weiss : z. B. The song of blue blouses (1932, music: Pahlen), sixteen years (1935, music: Pahlen), you, young comrade (1935, M: Pahlen), the song of everyday life (song sequence, M: Pahlen, 1935 broadcast) . He made contributions in the socialist press, he gave lectures on youth issues and he created choruses in the workers 'festival culture, such as the 1932 radio tower of the world in the Ottakring workers' home . After the end of democracy in Austria in 1934, Willy Miksch became a member of the Association of Austrian Workers' Writers founded by Viktor Matejka in 1936 .
During the Second World War he was a medic in the Wehrmacht in Poland and France. He returned from American captivity in 1946 and resumed his literary work. He designed radio programs for the Austrian Trade Union Federation and wrote a. a. Books for young people about Austrian inventors and discoverers. He became known after 1945 through the setting of the poem Die Solidarität by Erwin Weiss. In 1950 he was awarded in a literature competition of the Chamber of Labor and in the composition competition of the City of Vienna. He worked full-time as an administrative officer for the city of Vienna and in the statistical office.
