Willy Strothotte

Willy R. Strothotte (* 1944 in Borken , Westphalia ) is a German manager .

Life

Strothotte completed a commercial apprenticeship after finishing secondary school. From 1964 he worked as a raw materials trader in Austria, Belgium and the USA. From 1961 to 1978 he was a manager ("Rich Boys") and, as the successor to Marc Rich, from 1994 to 2001 CEO of Glencore International AG , a group of companies active in the raw materials trade with headquarters in Baar , Switzerland . He has been Chairman of the Board of Directors since 1994 and, with a current stake of an estimated 10 percent, is its largest single shareholder.

He has also been a member of the supervisory board of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), one of the world's largest private equity investment firms, and of the Australian mining company Minara Resources, since 2007 . Since 1994 he has been head of the board of directors of the British-Swiss mining group Xstrata , of which Glencore is the majority shareholder.

The Swiss business magazine Bilanz estimates his private assets at 3 to 4 billion francs, which corresponds to around 2.5 to 3.3 billion euros. He lives in Feusisberg in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. His son is the actor Marcus Thomas.
