Willy Wagner (also Guillaume Wagner ; born December 16, 1909 in Helmlingen , † unknown) was a French football goalkeeper of German origin.

Career

The 176 centimeter tall Wagner lived as a young adult in France, where he was in 1932 in the squad of FC Hyères , which was planned as a founding member of Division 1 as a national first division and professional league in the same year . As the first goalkeeper, the German-born took the place between the posts and was one of the pioneers of the newly created league when he was on the field on September 11, 1932 in the 1: 2 defeat against RC Paris on the first day of the game. Even if he was called up in all other games, he could not avert the relegation of his team at the end of the 1932/33 season. Thanks to his participation in all 18 contested league games of the championship, which was held in two groups in the first year, he is one of the record first division players of his club, along with Elek Schwartz , Jean Dupré and Willy Schaden , who never played first-class again. After another year in the second division for Hyères, in which he was not set for most of the time, he was signed by FC Sochaux in 1934 and thus returned to the top division.

At Sochaux, he went straight to the undisputed number one goal and never missed an encounter when the team was able to secure the French championship title in the 1934/35 season. After this only title win of his career, he stayed for another season in Sochaux before moving to the second division US Valenciennes-Anzin in 1936 . With the northern French he was set in goal and reached the return to the first division with the club in 1937. However, he and his teammates failed to remain in the elite class and had to accept relegation in 1938. Afterwards Wagner ended his career after 101 first division games and 16 second division games in France. During the Second World War he worked between 1941 and 1944 at the SAS Épinal as a trainer.
