Willy Welz

Willy Welz (born May 3, 1927 - April 21, 2010 ) was a German mechanical engineer.

Career

Welz presented his doctoral thesis in June 1963 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart . From November 1965 until his retirement in March 1988 he was director of the Welding Training and Research Institute in Munich (SLV). During this time he expanded the house considerably and developed it into the largest welding institute in Bavaria.

Since 1951 he was a member of the German Association for Welding and Allied Processes (DVS). There he founded the "Stud Welding" working group in 1970, which he chaired until 1992, and was active in numerous other bodies of the association. He also stood out through his publications.

In 1989 he was awarded the DVS Ring of Honor for his services to joint welding work and the DVS. In 1995 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon by the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to welding technology .
