history

A wooden post mill in Dörrwalde was named in the tax register of the Senftenberg office in 1609 . On July 2, 1844 the post mill or its successor burned down completely. In the following year, today's Dutch windmill was built at another location in the village. Another fire broke out on May 6, 1902, when a fire broke out in the mill head at around 11.45 p.m. and destroyed the mill's technical equipment. A severe storm buckled the mill wings on a Sunday in July 1908 and damaged the mill head.

In 1910, the mill owner purchased a steam engine which he used to drive the mill when there was no wind. Since 1923 the mill has been operated exclusively electrically, as the local electrical network was put into operation in that year. In 1945 the mill owner put an end to his life and the resettler, master miller Franz Biegel, took over the mill property with an apartment, mill, bakery and stables in 1947. In 1959, Biegel terminated his lease contract for health reasons, technical problems with the mill operation and government requirements for flour production.

From 1960, the local LPG managed the mill property , occupied the stables with cattle and used the mill to grind cattle forage. The bakery was already closed. In 1988 the LPG changed the operational structure and vacated the mill property. A merchant from Upper Franconia bought the neglected mill property in 1996 and renovated the mill and all other buildings down to the last detail. In 1999 he opened a café and two boarding houses for overnight stays in the former house. The hurricane Kyrill in 2007 damaged the new mill wings so strong that they are renewed needed. The resort Lusatian Lakeland GmbH as the new owner and operator of the dried Walder mill began the expansion of the mill ensemble to an event location with historic mill flair in 2012. The new opening of the Dörrwalder Mühle took place on November 29, 2013.
