Windows on the World was a tower restaurant and bar in the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York. The bar was also advertised with the tagline The Greatest Bar on Earth . The catering business extended over floors 106 and 107. While there were event rooms of various sizes on the 106th floor, the normal restaurant and bar operations took place on the 107th floor. The restaurant was located on the north side and allowed the guest to look down at the Manhattan skyline while eating . The restaurant was by far not one of the most expensive in New York, but it was still upscale and reasonably priced. Jackets were compulsory for men, and they were strictly adhered to - even those who had reserved but turned up without a jacket were referred to the bar.

The bar extended along the window front on the south side of World Trade Center 1 and across the corner over part of the east side. The bar was aimed more at the upscale public, but had average prices and no "face checks" at the entrance. The most popular was always the Wednesday for happy hour with free admission.

From the bar you could enjoy a view of the southern tip of Manhattan, where the Hudson and East Rivers flow together, through the floor-to-ceiling windows. You also had a view of the Statue of Liberty , Liberty State Park with Ellis Island and Staten Island with the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge .

On September 11, 2001 , some guests were already in the rooms of Windows on the World, as rooms of companies that resided in the World Trade Center were often rented there for meetings, presentations and the like. Nobody who was in these rooms at the time of the attack survived. However, there are records of numerous phone calls made by people trapped there, which bear testimony to the personal tragedy created by the attack.

On September 12, 2005, the Colors restaurant opened by the former employees of Windows on the World. The aim is to secure jobs for the survivors and to support the relatives of the dead.
