Kachlin wind pumping station
The Kachlin wind pumping station is located in the Thurbruch near Lake Kachlin on the island of Usedom .
At the beginning of the 20th century, the wind pumping station served as one of three wind-driven pumping stations (so-called wind pumps ) for draining the Thurbruch. The hub height is 12 meters. The diameter of the wind turbine is 8.5 meters. It consists of 27 smoke deflectors. The water was raised by 1.5 meters by means of a screw conveyor . Depending on the wind speed, the pumping capacity was between 480 and 1440 cubic meters of water per hour.
The wind pumping station was built in 1920 under the name Adler on behalf of the Kutzow landowner Rudolf Heydemann by the Köster company from Heide . In 1926 it was moved to its current location at the Kachlin pump basin. It was in operation there until 1968. Afterwards, the wind-independent drainage of the Thurbruch was ensured by electric pumps. It was supposed to be dismantled in 1969, but was then placed under protection as a technical monument . After it was badly damaged by a storm on New Year's Eve 1979, it was restored from 1994 to 1995.
