Wink Martindale
Wink Martindale (born December 4, 1934 in Jackson , Tennessee ), real name Winston Conrad Martindale , is an American television presenter and disc jockey .
Live and act
Martindale began a career as a disc jockey at the age of 17 at various radio stations, first at WPLI and two other radio stations in Jackson, and later in Memphis, Tennessee and Los Angeles .
At the same time, Martindale began a career on television. First he was on WHBQ-TV in Memphis as the presenter of Mars Patrol , a science fiction-oriented children's TV show. Martindale was friends with Elvis Presley , after whose death in 1977 he hosted a US-wide radio show dedicated to him.
Martindale was entertainer on many American quiz shows like What's This Song? , Debt , Gambit , High Rollers , The Last Word , Tic Tac Dough and Trivial Pursuit . He founded the quiz shows Bumper Stumpers and Headline Chasers ; he moderated the latter himself.
With his spoken song title Deck Of Cards from 1959 Martindale reached number 7 in the American charts " Billboard Hot 100 "; the record has sold over a million times.
Martindale divorced his first wife Madelyn in 1971; In 1975 he married Sandy Ferra. He has four children and seven grandchildren.
On June 2, 2006, Martindale was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
