The Winston-Salem T-birds were an American ice hockey team from Winston-Salem , North Carolina . The team played in the 2003/04 season in the South East Hockey League .
history
The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise for the first ever South East Hockey League . The team was named after the Winston-Salem Thunderbirds , who were active under this name in the ECHL from 1989 to 1992 . In their only season, the T-birds took fourth place in the SEHL after the regular season. This made them the only team in the league to miss the playoffs. When the league was dissolved after a year, the T-birds also stopped playing.
The void left by the T-birds in Winston-Salem was filled by the Winston-Salem Polar Twins , who played in the Southern Professional Hockey League's 2004/05 season .
