Winston McAnuff , also known as Electric Dread (* 1957 in Christiana , Jamaica ), is a Jamaican reggae and dub singer and composer who is particularly successful in France.

Life

McAnuff was born in 1957 to a Jamaican pastor. He began singing in the church in early childhood. After his father died in 1971, he moved to Kingston with his sister . There he met Hugh Mundell , Earl Sixteen and Wayne Wade , among others . From 1975 he took on several tracks together with Derrick Harriott , which appeared on his first album Pick Hits to Click in 1977 . A second album called What the Man "a" Deal Wid followed in 1978. The third studio album called Electric Dread was released in 1986.

During the 1990s his career took a dip, but McAnuff met the team at the French label Makasound in 1999. Several early McAnuff albums were re-released on this label from 2001 onwards, so that his music could be brought closer to a new audience in Europe. In 2002 the compilation Diary of the Silent Years with recordings from 1977 to 2000 was also released on the Makasound label. More recent recordings are mainly collaborations, for example with Camile Bazbaz (album A Drop , 2005), The Bazbaz Orchestra (album A Bang , 2011) and the French project Fixi (EP Garden Of Love , 2013; album A New Day , 2013).
