The Winterbergklippe is a gabbro rock in the Harz National Park .

Geographical location

The Winterbergklippe is located on the northern edge of the Harz at about 500 m altitude, southeast of Bad Harzburg in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony , above the Radau valley , through which the B 4 leads, in the lower summit area of the Winterberg. The hiking trail that connects the Gasthaus am Radauwasserfall with the excursion restaurant Molkenhaus leads past just a few steps from the Winterbergklippe . From this hiking trail, signposted by the Harz Club and the administration of the Haus National Park, a very short branch path leads directly to the cliff, the upper part of which is accessible and secured with an iron railing to prevent pedestrians from falling.

Some trees in the area around the Winterbergklippe impair the view that was offered from here on a clear day in the direction of Bad Harzburg and the northern Harz as well as the gabbro quarry on the opposite side of the valley.

A little above the Winterbergklippe in the beech forest on a slightly higher slope is the Rudolfklippe , which is also a Gabbrofelsen and from which there is hardly any view of the Radautal and the northern Harz foreland with Bad Harzburg due to the thicker tree cover.

Surname

The cliff is named for the mountain it is on.

history
