The Raubitschy winter sports complex is a training and competition facility for biathlon and ski jumping , which is located about 20 km northeast of the Belarusian capital Minsk . It is the only facility of its kind in Belarus. In addition to organizing national and international competitions, Raubitschy is used all year round as a vacation spot for families.

history

In 1972 the International Biathlon Federation was looking for a suitable location to host the 1974 World Cup . It was ensured that both the climatic and the landscape conditions are suitable for holding the title competitions. The choice fell on the large Raubitschy forest north-east of Minsk , which gave the facility its name.

The opening of Raubitschy took place on January 24, 1974, a few days before the start of the World Cup. Although the construction was completed in a very short time, the systems met all expectations. In addition to biathlon, many other competitions were held in the following years, including ski jumping , cross-country skiing and freestyle skiing .

Today the facility fulfills most of the requirements for holding competitions in the highest categories of the respective sports.

Data

overview

The 50 hectare area is also called Belarusian Switzerland and is located on the Usjascha River. In addition to the sports facilities, the sports complex includes hotels, shops and a museum.

Furnishing

The heart of the facility is the biathlon stadium, which was built for the 1974 World Cup . Although a large part of the original buildings from the 1970s are still there in Raubitschy, thanks to some renovations and new buildings, the facility presents itself today as a modern winter sports and leisure facility that offers a wide range of options for athletes and holidaymakers. In addition to the biathlon stadium with the cross-country trails, Raubitschy also has a ski jumping hill with a K-point of 74 m, a slope for freestyle skiing and an ice stadium in which ice hockey and speed skating competitions and other sports are held on ice. In the summer months, several fitness studios, a bicycle rental and several tennis courts can be used in Raubitschy.

Events

biathlon

After the first World Cup in 1974 , the title fights were held in Raubitschy in 1982 . Due to the weather conditions, only the individual races could be held at the 1990 World Cup , the remaining races were made up in Oslo and Kontiolahti .

Raubitschy was also the venue for the 2015 Biathlon World Championships for young people and juniors and the European Biathlon Championships in 1998 , 2004 and 2019 . Shortly before the start of the 2020 European Biathlon Championships , it became known that Raubitschy would also host the 2020 European Championship as a replacement for Otepää , as Otepää could not guarantee that the European Championships would run smoothly because the weather forecast was too warm.
