Seeboden district Wirlsdorf

Wirlsdorf is a district of Seeboden in the municipality of the same name on Lake Millstatt in Carinthia , which extends from the west bank of Lake Millstatt to Kraut in the north and to Techendorf in the east. Seeboden is a scattered settlement without a historical center, which developed as a result of tourism from the places Gritschach, Kraut, Reich and Wirlsdorf.

Wirlsdorf is largely built up of residential buildings and, along the main street ( Millstätter Straße B98 ), of shops. The town center with its event stage and chapel is located between Klinger Park and the pharmacy. The village community maintains the village square and organizes many festivals, such as the Peter and Paul Festival or the New Year's Eve festival.

The largest branch of the economy is summer tourism, which can be seen in many hotels. But there are also supermarkets, a butcher, several small specialist shops and a large tree nursery in the Wirlsdorf area.

Wirlsdorf in the old spelling also "Wierlsdorf" is, unlike most of the place names on Millstätter Berg, a German place name. The place, which is relatively close to the lake, was only founded after the Bavarians had conquered and evangelized the area around the year 1000. Wirlsdorf, also known locally as Werlsdorf , was first mentioned as Werenheresdorf around 1229 . In 1447 the Rotte is called Wernsdorf , 1447 Wernhartsdorf and 1502 Werlstarff . The place name probably goes back to the founder Wern (h) er , nickname Werili .
