The Wirtschaftsbetriebe der Stadt Norden GmbH is a municipal service company that is fully supported by the City of Norden . Its services include the supply of electricity, natural gas, district heating and drinking water. The commercial enterprises also operate the baths in the city of Norden and are responsible for tourism. The city of Norden is the sole shareholder of the GmbH.

history

The municipal utilities were originally run by the city administration. The official seat was in the town hall. In 1966, the city acquired the former municipal hospital as an office for its own operation. On December 19, 1972, Kurbetriebs GmbH was founded as the successor to the previous association. On May 15, 1973, the existing supply company was converted into Stadtwerke Norden GmbH. At the same time, the business operations of the city of Norden GmbH were founded, to which the shares of the two GmbHs were transferred and acted as a holding company. The company grew in 1976 by expanding the concession area for water in Hage and in 1983 by expanding the concession area for electricity. In 1984 the administration building on Feldstrasse was rebuilt and expanded.

A reorganization took place in 2004. The two companies Kurbetriebs GmbH and Wirtschaftsbetriebe der Stadt Norden GmbH were merged into Stadtwerke Norden GmbH. Stadtwerke Norden GmbH changed its name and was given the new name Wirtschaftsbetriebe der Stadt Norden GmbH . Stadtwerke Norden continues to appear as a service brand with its own website.

Electrification took place on March 10, 1914. In a contract between the city of Norden and the overland control center Wiesmoor , the city of Norden secured a supply of electricity. On June 5, 1914, AEG Berlin received an order to build a distribution network in the north. On October 1, 1915, the city also took over the transfer stations in the city and the substations for connection to the Avacon network . On October 1, 1943, the contracts were transferred via the EWE (formerly Energieversorgung Weser-Ems).

The power grid was continuously expanded. In 1983 the public utilities took over the concession and the power grid in the Ostermarsch (north) for 2.1 million DM . On December 2, 1987, the first wind farm known under the name Nörder Windloopers was opened on Fledderweg . Five wind turbines of 55  kW each were built for around 1.1 million DM. The wind farm was dismantled at the beginning of 2019 after 31 years.

Water supply

On June 30, 1938, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a waterworks in Hage took place at a planned cost of RM 600,000 . The scheduled commissioning took place on August 2, 1939. In 1969 the waterworks in Hage had to be expanded, and in 1975 the waterworks was rebuilt at the old location. This was the basis for taking over the water supply in Hage. On April 29, 1976, the new waterworks was officially opened, and on May 10, 1976 the first concession agreement between the municipal utilities and the municipality of Hage for water supply was concluded.
