Chamber of Commerce of Lower Austria

The Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce ( WKNÖ ) is one of the nine regional chambers of the Austrian economy and thus the sole legal interest representation of the economy in the largest Austrian state of Lower Austria .

structure

The WKNÖ is geographically divided into a head office in St. Pölten as well as 21 district and three branch offices, which, in addition to the branch representatives, are the first point of contact for all members. In technical terms, the WKNÖ is divided into seven divisions, which in turn are divided into 135 specialist organizations (specialist groups, guilds, committees and specialist representatives), which represent and advise on industry issues.

structure

In terms of business structure, the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce is divided into six areas:

WIFI, legal management and business management function as service areas externally, presidential and personnel management, financial management and controlling as well as communication management internally.

Freely elected officials and employees work together in the organization. The Chamber of Commerce represents the common interests of its members externally and works together with the specialist groups as part of the social partnership in the conclusion of collective agreements. Her further tasks include the assessment of laws and ordinances, in certain cases also the implementation of official agendas (apprenticeship and master craftsman examinations) in the so-called transferred, state sphere of activity. Strong advisory topics of the WKNÖ are legal and credit issues, technology and innovation matters, vocational training, company formation and company succession.

The WKNÖ operates the Institute for Economic Development (WIFI) and five career information centers (BIZ).

history

Lower Austria has been looked after by the Vienna Chamber since 1848, and since 1937 the conviction has prevailed that the largest Austrian federal state needs its own economic interest group.

  • In 1946 the constituent assembly of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce was chaired by President Julius Raab , and Julius Raab became President of the Federal Chamber of Commerce .
  • August Kargl becomes President of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce.
  • In 1947 the "notifications" were sent to all members of the Chamber for the first time, initially monthly, then weekly.
  • In 1949 the first district office was opened in Gänserndorf.
  • In 1954 Theodor Cerny was elected President.
  • In 1972 the central course and workshop building of the Economic Development Institute of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce is opened in St. Pölten .
  • In 1979 the Chamber opened a permanent career information center in St. Pölten.
  • 1980 Vinzenz Höfinger becomes president of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce.
  • In 1982 the Chamber had 40,356 members, its highest level in ten years.
  • 1986 Federal Councilor Leopold Maderthaner becomes the new President of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce, Vinzenz Höfinger becomes Regional Economic Councilor .
  • In 1990 Peter Reinbacher becomes the new President of the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce, Leopold Maderthaner becomes President of the Federal Chamber of Commerce.
  • In 1993 the Chamber of Commerce changes its name to "Chamber of Commerce".
  • In 1996, 82.12 percent of the members of the WKNÖ supported the chambers of commerce as a common legal interest group.
  • From 1999 to 2020 Sonja Zwazl was WKNÖ President
  • Wolfgang Ecker has been President of the WKNÖ since 2020
