Wirtualna Polska is one of the largest and most famous web portals in Poland . It was founded in 1995 by Leszek Bogdanowicz and is considered the first web portal in the country.

According to a press release from January 2005, the portal had around 6.1 million users in October 2004 and thus took second position in Poland behind Onet.pl (6.8 million users). Third place went to Google with around 5.5 million users.

A search engine is integrated into the web portal . WP also acts as an Internet service provider and offers services such as hosting, Internet access , and e-mail - user accounts .

Before the 1997 parliamentary elections in Poland , the portal, together with the editorial staff of the Rzeczpospolita newspaper and the Centrum Nowych Technologii technology center, organized presentations of the parties involved and the approx. 7000 candidates, discussions in a web forum and then a virtual test election. This action was followed with great interest by the Polish mass media . It is considered the first internet choice in Poland. With 867 votes cast, the simulated result was far from the real election result. So has z. For example, the Freedom Union (pl. Unia Wolności , UW) received 41.5% of the votes in the test election, but only 13.37% in the real election.
