Wisden Cricketers' Almanack , often short Wisden or the bible of cricket called, is a famous year in the UK appearing reference book about the cricket sport .

history

The Almanac first appeared in 1864, edited by the English cricketer John Wisden. The yearbook has had the current title since the sixth edition. It is thus the longest continuously published sports yearbook in the world.

In the more than 140 years of its publication, Wisden has only had 15 publishers . The publisher was long owned by Robert Maxwell's press group , but was bought by Sir Paul Getty in 1993 .

Collecting old copies of Wisden is a popular hobby of cricket fans. For old editions or those from the time of the world wars high prices are paid at auctions, they can now be bought as facsimiles .

content

The Wisden Cricketers' Almanack is a small-format but very thick book with around 1,500 pages that appears in April. The book cover has been kept in bright yellow since the 75th edition in 1938.

  • Awards, including the Wisden Cricketers of the Year, named since 1889
  • Records and statistics that are always of particular importance in cricket.
