Wissem Hmam ( Arabic وسام حمام, DMG Wissām Ḥamām ; * April 21, 1981 in Menzel Temime , Tunisia ) is a former handball player from Tunisia. He is a powerful player who plays primarily in the left back area .
career
Wissem began his career at the age of 10 in his home village of Menzel Temime. In 2001 he moved to the Tunisian first division club Espérance Sportive de Tunis . Wissem Hmam became well known when he was the top scorer at the 2005 Handball World Cup with a total of 81 goals. He was then courted by some of the top European clubs. In the summer of 2005 he decided to move to the French club Montpellier HB , with which he was six times French champion. In May 2014 it was announced that his contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be extended for economic reasons. For the 2014/15 season he moved to league rivals Saint-Raphaël Var Handball . He ended his career after the 2017/18 season. He has been an assistant trainer at Saint-Raphaël since June 2019.
He made his international debut for the Tunisian national team in July 1999. Since then, he has played 234 international matches, in which he scored 761 goals. In the summer of 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London and then ended his national team career.
