Vitaly Walentinowitsch Milonow ( Russian Виталий Валентинович Милонов ; born January 23, 1974 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician and member of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg (faction " United Russia ").

Political career

Milonov was born the son of a naval officer and a primary school teacher. After studying local government at the North-West Academy for Public Administration in Saint Petersburg, which he graduated in 2006, he completed a correspondence course at the Orthodox Humanities Saint-Tikhon University in Moscow .

In 1991 he joined the Free Democratic Party of Russia. From 1994 to 1995 he was assistant to Vitaly Viktorovich Savitsky, the chairman of the Russian Christian Democratic Union (Rossijski christiansko-democischeski soyus, RChDS) that existed in the 1990s . During this time, Milonow was also the chairman of the "Young Christian Democrats", the RChDS junior association. He later supported the Russian politician Galina Starowoitowa , who promoted him politically, but then withdrew from politics after Starowoitova's murder.

In 2004 he continued his political career at the municipal level, as a councilor of the Dachnoye municipality, and in 2005 as the head of the Krasnenkaya Retschka municipality. In 2007 he ran for the first time for the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg, with Moscow one of the two cities of Russia's subject status , and in his first term he was chairman of the committee on the establishment of the government, local authorities and territorial administrative structure. In 2009 he took over the chairmanship of the Legislative Committee. In 2011 he was re-elected as a Member of Parliament.

Milonov has been a member of the State Duma of Russia since September 18, 2016. He is a member of the United Russia group and sits on the Committee on International Affairs.

He was jointly responsible for the formulation of the law against "homosexual propaganda" .

Milonow is married and has two children. In 1991 he joined the Baptist Church, in 1998 he converted to the Russian Orthodox Church .
