With its headquarters in Germany, WITTE Automotive (formerly: WITTE-Velbert GmbH & Co. KG ) is the European part of the Vast Alliance , a global automotive supplier alliance for manufacturers of vehicle access systems.

history

Witte was founded in 1899 by Ewald Witte for the production of case locks. After the Second World War, the family company began to manufacture locks and fittings for the automotive industry . The rapid growth then began at the end of the 1980s and in 1992 led to the establishment of the subsidiary WITTE Nejdek, spol. s ro In 1993 a license agreement was signed with Great More, Taiwan .

In 1995 the opportunity arose to acquire a majority in Riewer Kunststoffe in Bitburg . And in 1996 the offer came to take over Krosta Metalltechnik in Velbert. At the urging of a large customer, the PRINZ WITTE GmbH joint venture was founded with the Prinz Group in Stromberg in 1999 .

Also in 1999, the then Witte-Velbert and Strattec Security Corporation , Milwaukee founded the Vast Automotive Group (VAST = Vehicle Access Systems Technology), which in 2006 also joined Adac Automotive , Grand Rapids .

In 2008 the Velbert-based company Friedr. Fingscheidt GmbH with approx. 300 employees taken over. In addition to the headquarters on Friedrichstrasse in Velbert, Fingscheidt also had a production site in Wülfrath . At this production site, u. a. also the Mercedes star manufactured for Mercedes-Benz cars. This company was merged with Krosta Metalltechnik and has been called WITTE Niederberg GmbH since October 2011

Also in 2008 there was the opportunity to take over the Power Products division from Delphi .

In October 2008, a new WITTE Automotive location was founded in the Bulgarian city of Russe (also Ruse): WITTE Automotive Bulgaria EOOD . In May 2010 the production of vehicle components started in Rousse. Due to the positive development, WITTE decided very soon to expand production capacities at the Ruse site. After a plot of land was acquired at the beginning of 2013, the foundation stone for the new production hall was laid on October 11, 2013 in the presence of Bulgarian President Rossen Plewneliew . This plant was officially opened on October 1st, 2014 by Rossen Plewneliew, Plamen Stoilow, the mayor of Russe, Manfred Püschel, chairman of the advisory board of WITTE Automotive GmbH u. v. a. m.

On May 13, 2016, another plant was opened in [Ostrov], in which exterior door handles are manufactured.
