Vyacheslav Yerwandovich Keworkov

Wjatscheslav Jerwandowitsch Keworkow ( Russian Вячеслав Ервандович Кеворков ; * July 21, 1923 in Moscow ; † June 9, 2017 in Bonn ) was instrumental as a "back channel", as such secret connections are called in the diplomatic language , for direct contact between the leadership of the Soviet Union and the Federal Republic of Germany . Together with his German counterpart, Egon Bahr , this unofficial channel contributed significantly to the exchange between the two countries during the Cold War , so that Willy Brandt and Leonid Brezhnev were able to communicate directly with each other on questions about Ostpolitik .
