Vladimir Borisovich Lomeiko

Vladimir Borissowitsch Lomeiko ( Russian Владимир Борисович Ломейко ; born November 27, 1935 in Novorossiysk , Russian SFSR , † August 15, 2009 in Moscow ) was a Russian diplomat .

Lomeiko was the foreign policy spokesman for the then Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze and the last spokesman for Mikhail Gorbachev before the end of the Soviet Union . Subsequently, Lomeiko took over the position of the Russian ambassador to UNESCO as well as that of a special advisor to the UNESCO Director General. He lived in Baden-Baden and was the executive president of the Baden-Baden-forums, a non-profit organization dedicated to the German-Russian dialogue.
