Vladimir Ivanovich Ritus ( Russian Владимир Иванович Ритус , English transcription: Vladimir Ivanovich Ritus; born May 23, 1927 in Moscow ) is a Russian theoretical physicist.

Life

After the end of World War II, Ritus studied physics at Lomonossow University in Moscow . He finished his studies in 1950 with a thesis at the Lebedev Institute (FIAN) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . From 1951 to 1955 he worked under the direction of Igor Tamm and Andrei Sakharov in the working group that developed theoretical concepts for the construction of a Soviet hydrogen bomb. For this work he received the Stalin Prize . In 1955 he returned to FIAN, where he worked in the theory department and received his doctorate in 1969 ( Russian doctorate ).

Ritus works in particle physics and especially quantum electrodynamics in strong fields. In cooperation with AI Nikischow, some internationally acclaimed and much-cited publications were created.

In 1994, Ritus was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

In 2010 he received the S. I. Wawilow Gold Medal and in 1983 the Tamm Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
