S.-I.-Wawilow gold medal
The S. I. Wawilow gold medal ( Russian Золотая медаль имени С.И. Вавилова ) was named after the Russian physicist Sergei Ivanovich Wawilow . From 1952 to 1991 it was awarded at irregular intervals by the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . Since 1995 it has been awarded every five years by the Russian Academy of Sciences for outstanding achievements in the field of physics.
The medal should not be confused with the N. I. Vawilow Gold Medal, which is also awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences.
