Alexander Nikolaevich Terenin
Alexander Nikolayevich Terenin ( Russian Александр Николаевич Теренин * April 24 jul. / 6. May 1896 greg. In Kaluga , † 18 January 1967 in Moscow ) was a Soviet physical chemist and university professor , who in the fields of photochemistry and Photophysik active was.
Life
After attending school in Kaluga, Terenin came to Petrograd in 1914 and began studying at the Petrograd Psychological Institute. During the First World War he was drafted into the Imperial Russian Army in 1915 and served in the scientific and technical laboratory of the War Ministry. In 1917 he was demobilized . After the October Revolution he studied from 1918 at the physics - mathematics faculty of the University of Petrograd . Terenin studied with Peter Pringsheim in the early 1920s .
After completing his studies in 1922, he initially stayed at the Leningrad University as an assistant. With Yevgeny Fjodorowitsch Gross he investigated the spectral lines of optically excited mercury vapor in 1926 . He then became a doctor of physical-mathematical sciences , professor , head of the chair of biophysics , head of laboratory and head of the department of photonics of the Physics Institute of Leningrad University . Alexander Abramowitsch Krasnowski and Bertold Samuilowitsch Neporent were among his students.
While still a student, Terenin worked as a laboratory assistant at the Leningrad Optics Institute (GOI) from 1919 . There he became assistant in 1921, physicist in 1932, group leader in 1937, head of laboratory in 1937, head of department in 1941, vice director in 1945 and department head again in 1956. His teacher there was Dmitri Sergeevich Roshdestvensky .
Terenin was elected a Corresponding Member in 1932 and a full member in 1939 of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)).
Terenine made important discoveries in the field of photochemistry and photophysics until the 1960s. In 1961 he conducted research in the field of UV photoelectronic spectroscopy .
