Bertold Samuilowitsch Neporent

Bertold Samuilowitsch Neporent ( Russian Бертольд Самуилович Непорент * August 11 . Jul / 24. August  1911 greg. , † 1997 ) was a Russian physicist .

Life

Neporent was the son of Samuil Issaakowitsch Neporent (1888–1973) and grandson of the Baku oil industrialist Issaak Matwejewitsch Neporent (1859–1919) and nephew of the economist Ossip (Iossif) Issaakowitsch Neporent (1886–1966), the opera singer and music teacher Issaakowna Fani –1958, married Wilenskaja) and the radiologist Matwei Issaakowitsch Neporent (1897–1985).

Neporent studied at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute with graduation in 1936. He then worked as a research assistant at the Leningrad Optics Institute (GOI) . His teacher there was Alexander Nikolaevich Terenin . In 1947 Neporent received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences . He became head of the spectroscopy department and main employee of the laboratory for picosecond spectroscopy .

Neporent contributed significantly to the development of molecular spectroscopy . With others he discovered in 1978 the phenomenon of stabilization or destabilization of electron- excited more atomic molecules . With his colleagues he developed unique devices, such as automatic spectrometers for balloon probes in the stratosphere . He was also involved in the PULS laser spectroscopy network .

Neporent was married to the physicist Lidija Arssentjewna Kotschur. Her daughter Irina (1945–2011) was also a physicist.
