Martin-Leo Hansmann

Martin-Leo Hansmann (born October 18, 1949 in Halle ) is a German pathologist and has been a professor at the University Hospital in Frankfurt am Main since 1996 .

Life

Hansmann studied the subjects biology and human medicine . He passed his diploma in biology in 1974. In 1977 he passed the medical state examination at the University of Bonn . Between 1979 and 1990 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Pathology at Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel . There he received his doctorate in 1982 . This was followed by his habilitation in 1987. From 1990 to 1996 he was professor at the Institute for Pathology at the University of Cologne . He then became a professor at the University Hospital in Frankfurt am Main , where he was also head of the Dr. Senckenberg Institute for Pathology .

Research work

Hansmann's main focus is on hematopathology and the molecular pathological investigation of malignant lymphomas ; especially the investigation of Hodgkin's lymphoma . He also works on the molecular analysis of single cells using microdissection techniques and on the uncovering of the transformation and interaction mechanisms of these cells. Through his research, he made decisive contributions to B lymphocyte development and thus helped to elucidate the nature of Hodgkin cells.

Awards and memberships

In 2001, Hansmann received the German Cancer Aid Prize . This was awarded to him together with Klaus Rajewsky and Ralf Küppers .

2008 he was by the University of Athens , the honorary doctorate awarded.

He has been a member of the Leopoldina since 2010 .
