Vladimir Petrovich Filatov
Vladimir Filatov ( Russian Владимир Петрович Филатов * February 15 . Jul / 27. February 1875 greg. In Saransk , † 28. February 1956 in Odessa ) was a Soviet surgeon.
He did pioneering work in corneal transplantation and worked with Eduard Zirm . He discovered tissue that, under certain conditions, could revive other, already dead tissue. He was able to replace corneal tissue destroyed by cataracts with the cooled tissue of a corpse and thus restore eyesight.
In 1939 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR .
