Vladislav Viktorovich Nelyubin

Wladislav Viktorovich Neljubin ( Russian Владислав Викторович Нелюбин ; born November 4, 1947 in Frunze , Kyrgyz SSR ) is a former Soviet cyclist .

Cycling career

Nelyubin's hometown club was Dynamo Frunze, later he started for Leningrad. From 1967 to 1973 he was a member of the Soviet national team. Neljubin took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico, but could not win a medal. He achieved his greatest successes in the Peace Tour . In 1971 and 1972 he was team winner with the Soviet Union and in 1969 and 1973 second in the team championship. In 1972 he won the Karlovy Vary - Prague stage and took second place in the overall individual standings behind Vlastimil Moravec - after 14 individual stages and a total length of 2025 km, 2 seconds behind. That was the closest deficit of a second man in the history of the Peace Drive. In 1971 he was fifth and in 1973 sixth overall.

He also won the points evaluation at the Tour of Austria in 1973 and came second in the overall standings.

In 1971 he received the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

His son Dmitri Wladislawowitsch Neljubin was also a cyclist and was Olympic champion in Seoul in 1988 with the Soviet team in the 4,000 m team pursuit . Dmitri Nelyubin was killed in a fight on January 1, 2005. Vladislav Nelyubin organizes an annual commemorative race in Saint Petersburg in memory of his son .
