Based on considerations about the relationship between surface and space in painting, Wlodek Bzowka has been concerned with filmic and then digital pictorial spaces since 2004 and tried out various possibilities of representing them in painting. Screenshots from 3D computer games provided the starting material for a series of paintings made in 2005 and 2006 entitled “On the Phenomenology of the Digital Image”. Since 2006 he has been developing a new type of collage technique in which he applied colored cuttings made of polyethylene foam to large-format, white-primed canvases. In the process, seemingly abstract tipping figures were created that allowed a view behind the stage of the digital image: Faulty computer game graphics served as a template , in which the game figure disintegrates into geometric splinters at the moment of defeat.

Works by Wlodek Bzowka can be found in numerous private collections, including a. in Hamburg, Berlin , Düsseldorf and Frankfurt am Main . In 2011 his artistic estate was accepted by the Forum for the Estates of Artists in Hamburg.
