The Vodnykiw Island ( Ukrainian Острів Водників / Ostriw Wodnykiw , Russian Остров Водников / Ostrow Vodnikow ) is a river island of the Dnieper in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .

The approximately 1750 meters long and 650 meters wide Dnieper Island is located south of Kiev city center in Stadtrajon Holossijiw on the right Dneprufer and is connected to it by a dam with a road over it.
There is a shipyard and a dacha settlement on the island .
history
Vodnykiv Island was called Monastery Island in the 18th and 19th centuries , as it once belonged to the Kiev Pechersk Lavra , and Galley Island , because it was a harbor and the island was shaped like a galley. It received its current name after the October Revolution . In the 1950s the island was connected to the mainland by a dam. The resulting dead river arm has served river boats as a winter port since then.
