House Martinistraße 27

The residential building Martinistraße 27 is located in Bremen , Mitte district, Altstadt district, Martinistraße . A special feature of the brick building from 1965 is the street-side facade of the ground floor and first floor, which was probably made by Theophilus Wilhelm Frese in 1750 and was used here three times. The rococo facade has been a listed building in Bremen since 1973 .

history

1st house, Martinistraße 11
2nd house, Langenstrasse 70

The facade in the Rococo style was created for the house Martinistraße 11, which was built in 1750 ( Baroque ). Friedrich Engels completed a business apprenticeship in this building from 1838 . The house was demolished in 1897.

With the support of the Julius Rohland Foundation, the facade elements were preserved and used for the house at Langenstrasse 70, which was newly built by Albert Dunkel . This house was destroyed in World War II. The facade parts were recovered again. In 1964/65 they were added in a different arrangement to the new building at Martinistraße 27, which is now (2018) used as an office building.

Very few buildings or components from the Rococo have survived in Bremen. Other rococo buildings or facades in Bremen are: Amtsfischerhaus , Café Stecker , Giebelhaus Geeren 26, Stadtsparkasse building , Kontorhaus Suding and Soeken , lower floor.
