Fritz-Erler-Allee 120

The residential high- rise of the building cooperative Ideal at Fritz-Erler -Allee 120 in Berlin 's Gropiusstadt district ( Neukölln district ) is the tallest residential building in the Berlin urban area and one of the tallest residential buildings in Germany. It was designed by Walter Gropius and his colleague Alexander Cvijanović at The Architects Collaborative (TAC). Walter Bandel acted as contact architect. Heinz Viehrig was entrusted with the implementation planning.

The house, built from July 1966 to June 1969, has 31 floors, contains 228 apartments of different floor plans with 16,118 m² of living space, is 90.85 meters high, has a cubature of 74,119 m³ and a total area of 23,379 m². Using three elevators (built in 1968) with a capacity of 13 people or 975 kilograms each, all floors up to the 29th floor can be reached in around 45 seconds. On the 30th floor there are two guest apartments and a common room, on the top floor there is only a smaller storage room. There are several shops on the ground floor . In the immediate vicinity and architecturally connected to the tower is the Ideal Pavilion , a single-storey building that houses a beer garden . The building can be reached by public transport from the Wutzkyallee underground station on the U7 line .

According to the information provided by the owner and client , the building forms a unit with the neighboring ring-shaped high-rise buildings built in a north-south direction, the shape of which is a deliberate allusion to the architecture of the nearby horseshoe settlement by Bruno Taut .

The gymnastics and sports club Neukölln 1865 , together with the SPD faction Neukölln and the Ideal building cooperative, organizes a stair run every year on the first Sunday after the New Year , the "Tower Run", in which the participating athletes climb the 465 steps of the high-rise building from the ground floor to the walk up the top floor. The current record is 3:16 minutes.
