The Benneckenbeck residential tower is a monument in the Magdeburg district of Ottersleben .

history

The exact year of construction of the tower is unknown. It is likely to have originated in the 13th or 14th century. In some cases, however, the period around 1500 or 1520 is also given. The year 1594 is written next to the access door.

This residential tower is the oldest building in the village of Benneckenbeck , which was later incorporated into Ottersleben . The tower served the residents as a means of escape in the event of attacks and sieges. The three upper floors could only be reached from the outside via a ladder, which was pulled in if necessary. There were several such towers in the Ottersleben area, none of which, with the exception of the Benneckenbecker, have survived.

In later times up to the Second World War the tower was used as a pigeon tower . In 1945 lightning struck the tower. The roof structure burned out. Since then the tower has not been used and is in ruins. Securing work was carried out at the beginning of the 21st century. The tower also received a roof again.

The residential tower is listed in the local monument register under registration number 094 82435 as a monument .
