Boberröhrsdorf residential tower

The residential tower in Boberröhrsdorf ( Polish Wieża książęca w Siedlęcinie ) is located in Siedlęcin , in the Jeleniogórski powiat ( Hirschberg district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . It is one of the most important architectural monuments in Silesia .

history

Dendrochronologically documented, a residential tower was built in 1313 or 1314, either by the sovereign Heinrich von Jauer or by the locator family . To protect the then western border of the Duchy of Jauer from Upper Lusatia and Bohemia , the residential tower was secured to the south by a weir system. The design of this tower seems to come from the west. The earliest representation of the residential tower comes from Friedrich Bernhard Werner from the end of the 15th century.

Agnes von Habsburg , widow Bolko II , sold the property to the von Redern, who kept the property until the end of the 15th century.

In 1732 the property passed to von Schaffgotsch through several intermediate owners . The tower served as the estate's administrator residence. After 1945 the dominium continued to be used as a PGR . The residential tower was taken over and restored by the Fundacja Zamek Chudów Foundation.

Building

In the interior of the residential tower, wall paintings were discovered in 1880, which are considered to be the oldest profane representations in today's Poland. A pointed arched portal leads to a plank staircase that leads to the first floor. Secco paintings can be seen on the second floor . These show a chivalrous bridal couple and a married couple lying in graves in the sense of a memento mori . Next to it is a depiction of St. Christophorus , who, as is typical in Silesia, carries the Christ child in his arms. On the right are scenes from a knight epic, the meaning of which is disputed. Possibly the pictures are about the liberation of Guinevra by Lancelot . Remains of a renaissance ceiling have been preserved on the third floor. Walled battlements over which the roof structure was erected in 1575 can be seen in the fortified storey above with the original screed made of rammed earth.
