Wojciech Myrczek

Wojciech Myrczek (* 1987 ) is a Polish jazz musician ( vocals , composition ).

Myrczek grew up in a family of musicians; He therefore learned the basics of playing the cello at an early age . During his studies he turned to jazz; he graduated from the jazz singing class at the Katowice Music Academy .

In 2010 he released his debut album We'll Be Together Again with his own quintet , which was followed in 2013 in a duo with pianist Paweł Tomaszewski Love Revisited . With the Piotr Schmidt Electric Group he can be heard on the album Silver Protect . In the course of his career Myrczek worked with Tomasz Stańko , Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski , Henryk Miśkiewicz , Anna Serafińska , Michael Patches Stewart, Camerata Silesia Katowice City Singers Ensemble, Aga Zaryan and with his sister Sabina Meck. He has performed at international jazz festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival , Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival , Kolory Polski (Poland), Sofia Jazz Peak (Bulgaria) and Celje International Jazz Festival (Slovenia).

Myrczek has been a faculty member of the AST National Academy of Theater Arts in Krakow since 2018; He previously taught at the Katowice Music Academy since 2012.

Prizes and awards

Myrczek won First Prize and Audience Prize at the 2013 Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition . In 2011 he received the Grand Prix of Jazz Voices (Lithuania) and in 2010 was a prizewinner at the Festival Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa 2010 . The readers of Jazz Forum magazine voted him “Singer of the Year” every year between 2015 and 2019.
