Woldemeskel Kostre

Woldemeskel Kostre (born January 29, 1947 in Menfes , † May 16, 2016 in Addis Ababa ) was an Ethiopian athletic trainer for medium and long-distance running .

Life

In Ethiopia , he was part of the squad of young runners preparing for the 1968 Olympic Games . Then he got the offer to study in Hungary. After completing his studies, he returned to Ethiopia and became an assistant coach. He took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich as a trainer . He later went back to Hungary to do a doctorate.

In the 1990s he became the head coach of the national team. All the successes of the Ethiopian runners from the 1990s to 2010 can be attributed to him. When, in the mid-nineties, for political reasons, a Dr. Kinfe was replaced, all top runners trained with him privately. After two years he returned to his old position. Among other things, he was the coach of Sileshi Sihine in 2006 . After his retirement he accepted an offer from Qatar .
