Wolf-Dietrich Rost (born December 12, 1952 in Zipsendorf ) is a German politician ( CDU ). In September 2009 he entered the state parliament of Saxony as a directly elected member of his Leipzig constituency for the CDU . His political subject area is mainly sports policy, as well as education, science and cultural policy.

Life

Wolf-Dietrich Rost is of Protestant denomination, is married and has one grown daughter.

Rost trained as a carpenter from 1969 to 1971 and worked in this profession until 1974. He then completed an engineering degree in Dresden until 1977. After completing his studies, he worked as an engineer for wood technology and technical director in Leipzig until 1990. From 1991 to 2000 he was managing director of a municipal housing company in Markkleeberg and a housing association in Leipzig. He then switched to self-employment , where he worked as a managing director in management consulting and urban development.

Rost was actively involved in the New Forum during the peaceful revolution in 1989. From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the German Social Union and joined the CDU in 1999. From 1990 to 2014 he was a city councilor in Leipzig. Between 1999 and 2009 he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the city council and chairman of the sports committee. Here he prepared major events such as the 31st German Gymnastics Festival in 2002, Leipzig's 2004 Olympic application and the 2006 World Cup. Since 2002 he has been chairman of the Leipzig-Nord local association. In September 2009 he entered the state parliament of Saxony as a directly elected member of his Leipzig constituency for the CDU. In addition to being a member of the School and Sport Committee, he also took on the role of spokesman for sport policy for the CDU parliamentary group. On August 31, 2014, Rost was re-elected and then took part in the coalition negotiations, where he largely negotiated the subject of sport. On September 1, 2019, Wolf-Dietrich Rost won his constituency for the third time in a row and again took part in the coalition negotiations on the part of the CDU, in charge of the sport sector. In the current legislative period (2019-2024) he is a member of the Committee on Home Affairs and Sport, as well as the Committee on School and Education. He is also a member of the Petitions Committee.

In the 2019 state elections in Saxony , he was elected constituency member in the Leipzig 6 constituency with 27.1% of the direct votes.

Positions in honorary office

Wolf-Dietrich Rost is also involved in voluntary work. In the course of his work as Leipzig city council, he was active for years on the supervisory boards of municipal companies and associations. These included the Sparkasse Leipzig and the Leipzig Zoo. He is also a founding member of Pro Leipzig e. V. and was a long-time member of the board, where he campaigns for the promotion and sustainable development of cultural values ​​in Leipzig and Saxony. He is an honorary member of the KFC Leipzig sports club. As managing director of the Richard Wagner Board of Trustees, Rost designed and coordinated Wagner's anniversary year in 2013, the initiator of which he was also on the city council. Rost is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Saxon Cultural Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the State Center for Political Education.
