Wolf Assmus (born March 6, 1944 in Göttingen ) is a German experimental physicist .
Live and act
Aßmus attended school in Hanau from 1951 to 1964. After graduating from high school, he studied physics in Göttingen and Frankfurt am Main. Then he worked as a math, physics and chemistry teacher in the upper secondary level . In 1973 Werner Martienssen did his doctorate on electron spin resonance measurements in alkali halide crystals and their modeling. From 1975 he took over the construction and management of the crystal and material development laboratory at the Physics Institute of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He completed his habilitation in 1990 and was appointed to a professorship for experimental physics at the University of Frankfurt in 1996. His special research interests lie in solid state physics , materials research and crystal growth , about which he provided information in more than 300 publications.
From 1997 to 2003 he was Managing Director of the Physics Institute, from 2004 to 2007 as Dean of the Department of Physics and from 2007 to 2009 as Vice President of the University. In 2003 he was awarded the "Gerald Kucera Laureate Professorship" for his outstanding achievements in the field of crystal physics by the Frankfurt Friends' Association for Basic Physical Research.
Since the end of 2012 he has been chairman of the board of the Hessische Heimvolkshochschule Burg Fürsteneck .
