Wolf Edwards

Wolf Edwards (born November 12, 1972 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.

Edwards studied composition with Christopher Butterfield , Michael Longton and John Celona , music theory with Harold Krebs and classical guitar with Alexander Dunn at the University of Victoria . He then took private lessons with Gilles Tremblay and obtained a Masters Degree in Composition and Music Theory at the University of Victoria from 2002-04 on a scholarship. In 2005 he attended courses from Pascal Dusapin , Wolfgang Rihm and Hilda Peredes at the Summer Academy in Metz , and in 2007 at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, courses from Chaya Czernowin , Stephen Kazuo Takasugi and Ole Lutzow Holm . Until 2009 he took further lessons from Chaya Czernowin.

Edwards' works have been performed in North America and Europe, and he has received commissions from the Arte Saxophone Quartet , the Sixxtrum Percussion Ensemble , the Esprit Orchestra , the Ensemble Surplus , the Arditti Quartet , the Molinari String Quartet , the Victoria Symphony Orchestra , the Aventa Ensemble and the Sofia Soloists . He was awarded the Murray Adaskin Prize for Composition (1997), the Vancouver Sonic Boom Prize (1998), First Prize at the Strings of the Future International Composition Competition (2001), Third Prize at the Molinari Quartet International (2002-03), the Third Prize of the Canada Council for the Arts / Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Jules Leger Competition for New Chamber Music (2005) and the First Prize of the Community Council Composition Competition (2006).
