Wolfgang-Uwe Friedrich

Wolfgang-Uwe Friedrich (born July 17, 1952 in Bodenwerder ) is a German political scientist. He has been President of the University of Hildesheim since 2002 .

Life

After studying history, political science and Slavic studies, Friedrich received his doctorate in history at the University of Göttingen in 1982 . Stays abroad took him to the St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia and the University of Istanbul . He later spent research stays in historical archives in Bonn, Vienna, Paris, London, Oxford, Washington DC, Boston, Atlanta, Stanford and Simi Valley. In 1992 he completed his habilitation in political science at the University of Hildesheim . 1982–1983 he was a John F. Kennedy Fellow at Harvard University , 1985 Visiting Professor at Arizona State University . He also worked as a teacher at the University of Göttingen, the University of Hanover and the University of Greifswald . Since 1996 he has been a professor of political science at the University of Hildesheim.

Friedrich has been active in university management since 2001: from 2001 to 2002 as Vice President of the University of Hildesheim and since 2002 as its President. From 2005 to 2008 he was a member of the board of the Lower Saxony State University Conference. He has been its chairman since January 1, 2015. The current term of office ends on December 31, 2020.

On December 7, 2013, Friedrich was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Yaroslav the Wise State University of Novgorod .
